Firtha is best known for taking WBA Heavyweight champion Alexander Povetkin the distance in a ten round fight last December. Mayo will have its own local derby this weekend when Michael Sweeney takes on John Waldron at the Royal Theatre, Castlebar on Friday, August 12 on the TG4 televised bill. Both men are coming off the back of title fight losses, with Sweeney, 9-2-1 (KO 5), narrowly missing out on clinching the vacant Irish cruiserweight title to Ian Tims, while Waldron, 5-4 (KO 2), lost his light-heavy crown to in-form Belfast battler Ciaran Healy. Seventy boxers have registered to compete in the four-day Open Unseeded Elite Competition at the National Stadium in Dublin. The Punisher eager to extend unbeaten run

Patrick Hyland will be hoping to extend the longest unbeaten run in Irish boxing when he takes on former EBU challenger Fabrizio Trotta in Castlebar this Friday on the Coyle-Cotena undercard.  Hyland was last in action this June when he beat Frenchman Philippe Frenois on points to capture the lightly-regarded WBF title at the National Stadium.
